hush arbors and arbouretum have each been exploring for years now the intersection of progressive folk and psychedelic rock, albeit filtered through their own distinct sounds. it was only a matter of time before their paths would cross. keith wood and dave heumann met at a show in baltimore and discovered their mutual appreciation for each others music. the two bands planned a joint european tour, and recorded aureola to further showcase and celebrate their complimentary sounds.

fully koded chicagoians traxx and beau wanzer team up for another mutant beat dance release. together they have produced arguably the best 80s chicago house record not made in the 80s. the mutants call it jakbeat, inspired by the early days of house music. tip!!! let me go is as intense and rhythmically inclined as they come. naughty woods sparse vocals cry desperation, almost nearing insanity, which makes up for a pressure cooker like warehouse anthem. rottonfunk is another intense work out which has a killer groove and makes us wander off to the promised land (wherever that is). its delightful to hear that chicago house music this good still gets made. surely when it was released way back when, it would fetch top dollars on the interweb. authentic stuff!

following releases on mathematics, boxfade and vuzkid, chris moss acid returns with an extraterrestrial four tracker on holland’s 030303. the a-side features bay of cadiz, an eleven minute cut built around an hypnotic bass line and a simple hitchcockian synth that would do well in a horror movie featuring zombies with smiley faces. on the flip, lynchette matravers is an energetic, crystal clear banger reminding of early 808 state. the big freeze sounds a lot warmer than the title suggests and should please anyone into afx’s later output. the rhythm, the fourth and last track on the ep, continues on that vibe with beautiful synth work. chris moss may look like a nutter, this sure is serious sonic pleasure

spearheaded by stuart leath, emotional rescue is a label committed to unearthing forgotten gems and giving them the exposure they richly deserve, with all releases officially licensed by the artist and remastered in full. this 12 inch sees two classic tracks by the world music collective suns of arqa take pride of place. incorporating elements of raga and dub, >brujo magic< is a much more straightforward dancefloor number than its description would suggest, with its rolling bassline and vocoder effects fusing irresistibly with its psyche-rock styles. on the b-side, >ananta snake dance< combines traditional indian percussion and harmonium with conventional drumming to create something completely unique. a strong start to what will no doubt be an indispensable label.

if it would not be so cold outside, the latest shot of insistmusic would become an instant party classic. what ping! from thuringia have delivered this time at least definitely feels that way. the third edition of the frankfurt based vinyl label presents an intelligent, groovy techno: predictable enough to entrain, diversified enough to pleasantly surprise. the opening track depature marches across the dance floor, picking up the playful dancers with its funky offbeat elements in the beginning and taking them on an,ecstatic journey with its cleverly placed breaks. in the remix by label mate sascha sonido depature catches a touch of tribal techno moving the track with its vocals like rolling sound figures a good bit further into the house cosmos.

the long awaited dubplate anthem is here! as soon as we at ns-hq heard >drum track<, we knew atlantas helix would fit right in around here. his two main obsessions are old grime and looping hypnotic berlin techno. and it shows, as both collide here to produce the ultimate rhythm track. this is anthemic 8 bar techno, or sublow gone hands-in-the-air raving. this trak destroyed every festival we played at last summer. this is super-stripped down, poised club music - exactly what night slugs is all about. on the flip, we are honoured to have one of our all-time favourite mic controllers flirta d bless drum track with his >no hook no bs< version. known best for such grime bangers as slks >hype hype< and his own >warp speed<, flirta brings that unique sound-effects laden flow to the riddim like its 2004 again and triumphant rave anthems are going off once more.

with their feet firmly positioned on dutch soil, the heads and hearts of dam swindle are nonetheless rooted deep into the soul of the motor city, and this ep of finely crafted grooves on jimmy posters and huxleys fledgling saints & sonnets imprint is as brilliant a reflection of their obsession as you could expect. >the wrap around< combines a killer vocal hook with a silky line, but its the bassline that marks it out, coming in with a thudding bassline that twists itself into all manner of unfiltered goodness at the halfway point. >pain tomorrow< meanwhile prefers to let its skipping percussion do the talking with a bumping chord led groove that would put mcde to shame. the ep is rounded off with a killer remix of the title track from deleusions of grandeurs pattern select, turning in a sparse reworking which transforms the light original into a throbbing piece of basement house.

the irish blues-rock multi-instrumentalist rory gallagher recorded quite some solo albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s. music on vinyl already released the lost album >notes from san francisco<(movlp349) in september 2011.
now its time for gallaghers first two albums to get fully remastered and pressed on audiophile 180-grams vinyl. rory gallagher released his eponymous solo debut album in 1971. this album marked the departure from taste, the first band which gallagher founded, and the start of his solo career. gallagher wrote all the songs himself and recorded the album with two befriended belfast musicians.
>deuce< is gallaghers second solo album and was originally released in 1971 as well. in contrast with his previous well-produced album, >deuce< was an effort by to capture the energy of a live performance. in order to do so gallagher would often record immediately before or after live performances while keeping production at a minimum.

shawn osullivan of up and coming new york new wave bands led er est and further reductions, brings us the latest release on wt. the easiest description would be drop bass network meets berghain dub techno meets the new sound of amsterdam with a little bit of acid and industrial sprinkled in, but you should listen to the clips yourself to decide. shawn takes synths, drummachines, a sequencer and some effects and records one take on a stereo track. this leaves room for wild mistakes, personal moments, and blown out sound. its a classic techno sound that sounds like it should have been done before, but hasnt.

whilst some people claim that the number seven is lucky, some people, like duff, dont believe in luck, or if there is such a thing as luck you make your own. you cant rely on anyone else to hold your hand you know, you gotsta forge your own path, they arent called the mean streets for nothing. duff is the sort of man who not only makes his own luck (cos who else is gonna look after you?) but he keeps an eye on his bredren too. those in the neighbourhood feel safe because all is good in duffs hood, always has been, always will be, the police dont even come there, because they don’t have to, that block is on lock-down brother. though he isnt some type of machismo, over-the-top (hat back go-on sly) caricature, its just the way it is, nuthin to argue about. he has a way about him, the glare of a pitbull and the smile of don juan, dusty is his girl yep thats her real name, the name her mamma gave her on the day she was introduced to this world. the girl is fine thats for sure but what else would you expect from the honey that rides shotgun with the sonic casanova. she might call herself lucky. duff would disagree.

i was finishing up a long extended set in paris when the cleckcleckboom crew practically ran into the club to get on the decks. i had hung out with them before but tonight they had all new tracks and an incredible energy. so i stayed past the last ravers just to hear what they would play and that was when i heard “hugz” by french fries and bamabounou. this was a new sound, some nasty nasty shit sitting somewhere between juke and bass music and and i knew we had to get this sound on dirtybird no matter what. needles to say “yo vogue” is hot property and i’m really excited to release it on dirtybird. the half time drop, the chopped and screwed vocal, the stuttering bass kicks, the creepy moog on top - it’s simple and complex at the same time and it wrecks shop whenever it gets played. i did a remix on the b side giving it some db flavor and dirtybird newcomer leroy peppers lays out his own bay area skeeze with hot sauce on top. watch yer bass bins! best, vonstroke.

after the excellent boris hottons >love is ep< it is time to present to you the second release of prague based label visky recordings! we would like to welcome warmly the two-men german project paskal & urban absolutes with their >our smile in your face ep< as a part of the new establishing visky family. a contribution to the ep has also been made by farsides henry l with his fabulous remix of the title track.

welcome reissue for this super-rare space funk album from 1983, one of the holy grails of the cosmic scene. extremely expensive and hard-to-find in the original, this lp was created by legendary french producers jean-pierre massiera and bernard torelli (listed here as areisam and bernie) and released on french label savoir faire. it is a superb example of the duos innovative electronic disco madness, always pushing boundaries while remaining supremely funky. stand-out tracks are the italo classic >challenger< - heady synths, tough bass and astronaut vocals combine in a strange space odyssey, >cruisin<, a superb electro-boogie style cut with a hypnotic driving bassline, and the fantastic >on the border<, a tight funky percussive workout whipped by wild space-rock guitars. but as you would expect from the massiera/torelli trademark, all tracks are great and the lp a worthy addition to any self-respecting italo / cosmic collection.

f3 are three brothers from tel aviv, who sent >lonely land< in a bottle from israel that somehow found its way to us. are they triplets? we dont know. are they ancient balearic overlords, risen from their white sand graves? or are they cosmic kids, a new generation of vagabond disco trippers taking to the future by way of the past - we cant say. have they produced a sparkling slice of sunrise disco house? we would like to think so. >lonely land< is a filtering, chugging swing for the lovers, and f3s debut. the clubmod002 release includes remixes by john talabot and seahawks.

if you have heard daniel martin-mccormicks name recently, it would probably have been either in association with his disco/punk/echo band mi ami, or as sex worker on the not not fun label, or finally as ital on nnfs sister label 100% silk, recording quite different sounding house music to this album. raised in washington dc, daniel has a history in the citys hardcore scene, he was in the dischord records signed black eyes, but was also making dance inspired tracks at the same period, but coming from a very different angle from your average guy with a copy of logic and a working knowledge of dance musics history.

at this point it is difficult for us to sum up the multi-faceted career and personality of tony rohr. he is brooklyns bang mixed with mid-western politeness, and is easily one of the most original and well-liked artists in the industry. his sought-after live pa, matched with a discography and release schedule that aspiring artists would kill for, keeps him consistently in high demand. he has turned up the heat in recent years, burning miles across the globe and sharing his enthusiasm for music and life via macbook, machinedrum and two korgs.

after i heard enol s beautiful track white mango on initial cut, i felt the need to reach out. i had a long and friendly conversation with matthieu (enola) about our musical background and agreed on the fact that we both have a weakness for pop music and early detroit techno, and quickly came to the conclusion that something with a little pop would be perfect for the label. enola came to us with >slow motion< featuring the vocals of will caulfield. its something different for enola, and something different for us, deep techno pop, perfect for 5am! enola is the new project of french dj matthieu monnin, who used to be part of the techno outfit noirdegout. matthieu now works on his own, finding his niche in melodious techno, taking inspiration from the sounds of the nineties. he has done work with the likes of rodriguez jr, anoraak, and arno gonzalez, and now he joins correspondant with >slow motion<. on the flip side, nhar, the other half of correspondant turns the darkness into light with for me, his best remix to date. if the original is for 5am, nhars remix is for 5pm, when the sun still shines and its warmth still remains.

having already appeared on r&s with a remix of model 500 and a track on the iotdxi compilation named >ralph< which showcased his singing voice for the first time, this two track single seems like the natural stepping stone from bullions previous work. replacing what would previously have been samples with his own vocals and instruments played by both himself and some friends, >say arr ee< and >what does she know< continue to show bullion as a music lover of many styles who can identify and combine those elements with an air of sympathetic range and still have a sense of clarity and cohesion.

the bowels of flapjack records are very excited and relieved to push that peruvian boy out onto some vinyl. what a relief! this new ep is so phat that we thought it might have required a trip to the hospital. there is no enema strong enough to work this hot piece out. this would require some dance floor surgery. >i cam to jam ep< is like the signature dish of peru and works like magic on the dance floor as well as your taste buds.
